SmarterFan Projections: Will Javi Vazquez be the Next Member of the 3,000 K Club?

Javi Vazquez is quietly putting together hall of fame numbers.  As of today (7/16/2011), Javi Vazquez is the active leader in career strikeouts, with 2440.  He is only 34 years old, and so, he has very good chances of making it into the prestigious club.  He only needs 560 more K's to make it, which he can easily achieve in the next three or so years.  Even at the easy pace of 100 K's per year, he would enter the club before reaching the age of 40.

Reaching this club would make him a solid candidate for the Hall of Fame, as this club currently includes only 16 members, and all ten eligible members are in the Hall.

And, being Puerto Rican, I must mention that he would be the fourth Puerto Rican in the Hall, together with Roberto Clemente, Orlando Cepeda, and Roberto Alomar--although we must remember that there are other good candidates as well, such as Pudge Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez, Juan Gonzalez, Carlos Baerga, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran, some of whom will make it into the Hall before Vazquez.  In any case, Vazquez would be the first Puerto Rican pitcher in the Hall.

Go Javi!
